Ottawa - Canada's Capital

Estrie International’s head office location and International Language School are located in Ottawa-Gatineau, Canada’s Capital. Ottawa is a dynamic, showcase city of over one million people and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. It is a place where you will hear English and French spoken in the streets, meet people from cultures from around the world, and discover the country’s proud heritage at impressive national sites and historic landmarks including Parliament Hill and the Rideau Canal – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Culture

Ottawa is a city rich in culture, with world-class museums and galleries. These include: the Canadian Museum of Civilization, which features the world’s largest indoor collection of totem poles; the National Gallery of Canada, which houses the country’s national collection of art; the Canadian War Museum, Canadian Museum of Nature, Canada Aviation and Space Museum, and others devoted to science and technology and agriculture and food.

 Celebration

Ottawa is a city alive with celebration, beginning each year with Winterlude – three weekends of skating on the world’s longest skating rink, plus snow and ice sculptures and outdoor fun. In May, the Canadian Tulip Festival happens as millions of tulips bloom across the Capital, followed by the Ottawa Race Weekend, which welcomes over 30,000 runners to Ottawa’s streets. Things really heat up July 1 with the biggest Canada Day celebration in the land, and continue throughout summer with massive music festivals including Bluesfest, Jazzfest, Chamberfest, Ottawa Folk Festival and more. Plus there’s summer pageantry on Parliament Hill with the daily Changing the Guard ceremony and the nightly Mosaika Sound and Light Show.

Natural Beauty & Recreation

Ottawa is a uniquely beautiful, four-season place, an urban centre on the edge of nature, where you can enjoy the great outdoors in the heart of the city – including cycling, running, hiking boating, whitewater rafting and more in summer; skating, skiing, snowshoeing and more in winter.

Dining, Nightlife & Entertainment

Though a G8 Capital, Ottawa is a clean, green, safe and relaxed city with a very walkable downtown and many unique neighbourhoods including the ByWard Market – a bustling farmers’ market and chic shops and boutiques by day, and restaurants, pubs and clubs by night. Ottawa is a city that enjoys the finer things in life, with great chefs and restaurants, a lively local music and art scenes, and a strong performing arts community – even a glamorous casino.
