Exam Preparation (TOEFL)

Students develop test-taking strategies, complete exercises focusing on each part of the tests (listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and speaking), and have practice tests to improve their overall test-taking skills.

IELTS Test Preparation

In all EAP classes, teachers work on developing academic style and ability towards success on standardized tests such as the IELTS, and they often incorporate questions and materials from these tests in their classes. However, in this class, students learn the actual format and layout of the IELTS test, and work progressively through previous exams with help, advice, and feedback from the teacher. After each practice exam, the teacher scores the results, and the student can see their progress. By the end of the course, all students should be capable of a score of 6.0 or higher on the IELTS, with many students scoring 7.0.

This ten-week course prepares students for college or university by focusing on academic reading and writing, classroom listening and note-taking skills, presentations and discussions, and university entrance test preparation. Upon completion of this course, students, on average, score 6.0 or higher on the IELTS exam, and will be ready for the intensive academic reading, writing and discussion required for success at a Canadian college or university.

EAP Integrated Skills

Students study advanced topics using all four skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) in an integrated manner, with a strong emphasis on developing and expressing the critical thinking needed in academic study.

EAP Listening and Speaking

The class focuses on multimedia clips of actual university classes in a variety of subjects, and teaches students effective listening and note-taking skills. Students then discuss and prepare presentations on related topics.

EAP Reading and Writing

Students work intensively on the academic style, learning how to critically analyze and compare and contrast essays and articles. In writing, they learn organization and presentation, and are required to research topics and produce progressively longer assignments using appropriate style and referencing.
