Pathways to Higher Education

Estrie International works continuously with colleges and universities to develop pathways to degree and diploma programs for our students, allowing them to bypass the need for an English exam and gain early admission to the school of their choice. We can acquire conditional letters of acceptance from some partners, and can facilitate student applications with any post-secondary educational institution that is a member of Languages Canada.
Students who complete Level 5 at Estrie (Common European Framework – CEF – C1), or who score High-Advanced on the placement test, can enroll directly in the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program.
Students who test below Advanced will be enrolled in the general English program until they have achieved the level necessary for success in the EAP program.
English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program Summary:
Duration:
10 weeks, 25 hours per week
Focus:
Academic reading and writing, classroom listening and note-taking skills, presentations and discussions, and university entrance test preparation.
Results:
Upon completion of this course, students, on average, can expect to score 6.0 or higher on the IELTS exam, and should be ready for the intensive academic reading, writing and discussion required for success at a Canadian college or university.
Program Summary:
EAP Integrated Skills
Students study advanced topics using all four skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) in an integrated manner, with a strong emphasis on developing and expressing the critical thinking needed in academic study.
EAP Listening and Speaking
The class focuses on multimedia clips of actual university classes in a variety of subjects, and teaches students effective listening and note-taking skills. Students then discuss and prepare presentations on related topics.
EAP Reading and Writing
Students work intensively on the academic style, learning how to critically analyze and compare and contrast essays and articles. In writing, they learn organization and presentation, and are required to research topics and produce progressively longer assignments using appropriate style and referencing.
